High air pollution and limited community awareness of this situation often deter collective environmental action. This citizen research was a process that merged open access technology, design, and DIWO [Do-It-With-Others] practices to foster environmental monitoring skills in citizens to care of nature and, consequently, ourselves. The project culminated in two fanzines of explorations, six Arduino-based monitors and the discovery of a microbial indicator pattern currently being developed into an academic article.
